Louis d' Almeida, Executive Director has said, '(The kids) love it, they do it well and it teaches them. It's not a classroom setting but they learn structure, discipline, teamwork and all the other things that will help make good solid citizens. Basketball is an activity that gives them real satisfaction; a rare commodity in their lives". Every effort is made to keep life in the Gauchos' gym simple and straightforward. Aside from the rules of the game itself and those of good sportsmanship, Gauchos players must abide by a few of our rules:
* All players must attend school and maintain a C+ grade point average to participate
* No drugs, or alcohol. Hats off in the gym * No fighting or foul language allowed Typically, youngsters come to the gym right after school and spend time studying before their practice and they often study after practice. Coaches and volunteers are there to assist the youngsters and to help them prepare for exams, quizzes and upcoming events at school. It is in this area specifically that funds are most desperately needed. To offer even greater support for academic issues, especially for standardized tests such as the SAT. The Gauchos Travel program has tryout twice a year; November for boys who are between the ages of 8 to 14. Our HS program has tryouts for the elite boys travel teams every March.
