The Gauchos' Lady Choz player Betnijah Laney  has been selected Gatorade Player of the Year for Delaware.

Laney also named player of the year on the Delaware all-state girls’ basketball team.  On average, Laney scored 21.6 points and grabbed 11.5 rebounds per game this winter. But more importantly, she helped lead the Smyrna girls to their best season ever. The Eagles compiled a 21-3 record and finished as the state runners up in the DIAA tournament. This was the second season in a row that Laney received first team all-state honors. She was a first team all-state selection last season as a sophomore. Laney also holds the state’s single-game scoring record for five-on-five girls’ basketball with 52 points, which she hit twice last season.
