Kadeem Jack, a 6-foot-8, 217-pound South Kent (Conn.) forward/center, has been focusing his efforts on making a decision as soon as possible - maybe as early as Sept. 1-15, according to Jack in a telephone interview with NYCHoops.net.
Now that Jack is among only four suits out of the ACC, BIG EAST and SEC - "Miami, Rutgers, Arkansas and West Virginia" - he is entering the homestretch of a very long recruiting process.
Jack said that he chose the aforementioned collegiate athletic programs because he looked for a school where he "can go in and make an impact right away."
"That's how I cut my list down by just choosing the schools that I know I was needed to come in and play," Jack said.
Jack does not mind what conference he will play in during the 2011-12 season. He claimed that he really did not take the conference style into consideration when limiting his collegiate list.

"I actually didn't try to make the decision, really think that much of my playing style because I believe if I want to play with the next level I have to adjust to any type of playing style it is," said Jack. "It doesn't really matter what playing style I play, it's just what the coach wants me to do with it. Kind of switch my game and I think I can get along with . . . what [the coach] is preaching. So, the conference doesn't matter to me."
In narrowing down his choices, Jack left no New York colleges on the list to call home. Jack noted that whether he stayed at home or went away to college, either way, he would be away from home because he would not be able to come home every weekend.
With that thinking, staying within the tri-state (i.e., Rutgers), committing to the semi-Midwest (i.e., Arkansas) or joining a squad down south (i.e., Miami), does not phase Jack one way or the other.
Currently, Jack said that he is planning visits to Rutgers and West Virginia.
"I'll probably try to get that sometime early in September because I want to make my decision early," said Jack. "[My decision] is going to be in September - around the first to the 15th."
The former 2010 Rice High School (New York, N.Y.) big man has matured over the months spanning from his senior year to now, knowing exactly what he wants and going after it with no inhibitions. In retrospect, Jack says that he is happy that he reclassified to the 2011 class and chose to attend South Kent to develop and work on his skill set. He is undoubtedly content with the choices affecting his recruitment and seems to envision a bright future for himself in Connecticut.
"I know by this time next year, I'll be a totally different player," he said. "It was a great decision from what I can see."
