Lady choz is on the up rise of showing that they are determined to be the best. With hard work and dedication this year they have proved there isnt anything thats going to stand in their way. Taveling all the way to Augusta, South Carolina that feature 24 of the Nike Elite travel Basketball teams. Helping Gauchos achieve a great summer,The ladys of 15u took home the Nike Nationals Championships proving that after coming all the way to Augusta,South Carolina they were'nt leaving empty handed. Their hunger and strive to success has only just began.
Lady Choz aren't the only one that are striving to be the greatest, The males of 17u came in 11th place in the AAU Nationals, Most people believe that 11th isn't a great spot to land but when competing with over 200 teams 11th place shows the true talent of these teams.15U came in 2nd place in the AAU showcase,14u came home with Holcombe Rucker, Hoops In the Sun, and Rod strickland Champions,13u Tru-Ballaz and Sebastian Telfair Champions,12u Camello Anthony, Amsterdam Action and Gauchos Champions,10u Camello Anthony, and Amsterdam Action Champions,9u Swinton 2nd Place Hoops by the River,9u Williams Hoops by the River Champions,8u 7th Place AAU Nationals. All of these has shown that hard work really does pay off.

Gauchos Family,
The AAU season is coming to a close. The Gauchos program had some bright spots this season that I want to highlight and bring to your attention.
Coach Tommy Swinton and Coach Wee did a fabulous job with the 2nd Grade team and Tommy's 15u 9th Grade team made us all proud by making it to the Super Showcase Championship game in Orlando. The 2nd grade team placed 7th at the AAU National Championships. Having two teams ranked in the top 10 is a great accomplishment for Tommy and the Gauchos program.
We have two 3rd Grade teams currently competing at the AAU Nationals in Orlando. We wish both teams much success.
The Lady Choz guided by Earl Elliott had an incredible summer. The Gauchos 15u girls ended the AAU season winning the Nike Nationals in Augusta Ga, and making it to four other high profile championship games. The Lady Choz 15u girls will most likely be ranked as the #1 team in the country...a huge accomplishment for the Gauchos HS Girls program.
The Gauchos 17u and 16u boys teams made it to the Sweet 16 playoff round at the AAU National Championships in Orlando. The 17u team placed 11th out of 248 teams.
The weak economy certainly had an impact on our middle school teams and their ability to compete nationally this year. This was the first time in a long time that the Gauchos program had no representation in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade AAU Nationals.
I guess I would classify this year as a year of transition and change. We have a new Director of Basketball Operation (Billy Singleton) who shares my goal of making the Gauchos program the top AAU after school basketball program in the country.
I am proud of all the coaches, players, and parents who have committed themselves to being the best that they can be and keeping the Gauchos a highly respected program.
As a family I believe that we all want to help Gauchos Basketball remain the country's premiere grass roots basketball program and for that I am grateful.
In the coming year some adjustments will be made to ensure that the program as a whole continues to make improvement.
We will end this year with a game against the Netherlands Junior National team August 6th at our gym. We will wrap up the Gauchos Summer League at Haffen Park, and host our 2nd Annual Summer Camp at SUNY Purchase College Aug 23rd-Aug 26th. Most importantly our 6th Annual Gala Fund Raiser will be held at the Legends Club at Yankee Stadium Wednesday September 15th 6pm - 10pm.
We hope that you will choose to come out and lend your support to each of these important events for the program.
Please send photos that you would like to have included in the 2011 calendar. Thank you for all of the support.

In the AAU Super Showcase first round the New York Gauchos 16u played Caron Butler's Team Takeover Squad which was the team to beat. The venue was crazy ,many college coaches people who weren't playing were up for the game . The game started off fair trading buckets but at low score . They were a defensive team, pressuring us full court man to man. Us as a team hadn't played a team with so much defensive pressure before . Later in the 2nd the Gauchos began to pull away but a game changing dunk by Takeover big man kept it close and they began to make a mini run . As how it started half time they was able to get there legs and full court press the gauchos but gauchos maintained and kept it close as the game always was. Towards the end the energy level increased with the help of Darnell Glover he gave gauchos some life with his energy level being so high. Down the stretch some big time plays was made by Jevon Thomas , Brain Bernardi and the players from Takeover #15 and #20 . Regulation ending with a miss put back from Amadou Sidibi . 1st Overtime was decided off Free Throws and Turnovers which was balance . 2nd overtime was all gauchos with Brian Bernardi sealing the game with a 3pointer and 2 clutch Free Throws . Gauchos Win

This past week New York Gauchos 16u partcipated in the AAU Nationals down in Orlando Florida . One game that higlighted the entire trip was probably the overtime win against Team Breakdown which is one of the better teams in the country and who are already from Florida . The game started out in gauchos favor going up 11-2 with 4 baskets from forward Stephon Mosley and a and1 basketball from point guard Jevon Thomas . Gauchos was hitting every shot so far and making the necessary adjustments on the defensive end . First half was almost over and gauchos was up 12 looking like they could push for more for an early blow out , until some turnovers in the last minute cut the game to 2 . To start the secound half Team Breakdown picked up where they left off at and made it a touguh game for the gauchos . Scoring basket after basket it made it hard for the gauchos to pull away . now scored was tied at 62-62 and Team Breakdown hit back to backto back 3s and they begin to pull away . Brian Bernardi hits a 3 to pull it close , 30 Secounds left gauchos foul hoping for a bail out at that they get jevon thomas fouled out. With them being in the bonus gauchos sent Breakdown big man to the line for two. He misses both and transition break is started and Melvin Johnson hits 3 pointer as well , Gauchos foul the big once again and he misses both , Transition is started but ball goes out still gaucho ball . Play was attended to get Brain Bernardi the ball , but was heavily denied and was passed to Darnell Glover who rushed a shot but offensive rebound by Stephon Mosley gave hope and quick pass to Melvin Johnson who hit the 3 pointer to send it into overtime. Game is now tied at 71-71 . OVERTIME PERIOD - Micheal Tobey wins tip to Dashawn Suber who finds Melvin open for a easy layup . Gauchos defense stepped up in the extra period and begin to get big stops and rebounds which wore breakdown . After each stop Breakdown would foul Dashawn Suber who went to the line and hit 4 big free throws to pull away with the game , and gauchos win .

New York Gauchos took flight on wednesday, July 20th, to participate in the Super Showcase tournament in Orlando Florida. Both New York Gauchos 15u and 16u had early success beating their opponents by double figures, easily making it into the playoffs. The Gauchos 15u finished by making it to the championship game falling to CP3 Elite, and the 16u fell in the elite 8. This tournament shows what the New York Gauchos future holds in their continuing winning tradition of being one of the top AAU organizations.

Just watched the AAU Super Showcase championship game in Florida and the 15u Gauchos are yet again defeated by NC CP3. In my opinion the coach is not utilizing his full team. The same 6 players played the entire Semi-Final and Final games. I watched some of the players who played well in previous games in this same tournament that did not get into the Semi-Finals or the Championship games. This is where the Gauchos problem lies. LEARN TO UTILIZE YOUR PLAYERS AND STOP PLAYING FAVORITES !!!!!

Many New Yorkers are bummed that LeBron James chose Miami over Manhattan. But there is still a chance to see plenty of LeBron wannabes in summer basketball leagues around the city.
